Unleash the tension
Padel is a booming sport in Portugal, with thousands of players throughout the country enjoying “the game of tennis between walls”.
VOLT Padel wanted to take advantage of this boom and show itself as the first Portuguese brand of padel rackets and gear. They approached our studio with a clear intention: to create a brand that would set itself apart from the usual flashy and flamboyant style of padel rackets, a “wanna-have” brand because of both the quality and the design of the rackets . A simpler and cleaner look & feel, that still transpired speed, agility and confidence, that could satisfy customers tired of the same “big logo” style of rackets.
VOLTA was involved in this project from the very beginning, creating the naming and concept behind VOLT Padel and their rackets brand design. As padel is such a fast sport that can only be played in doubles, we chose voltage (also known as electric tension or pressure), as the concept behind VOLT’s name and visual identity: voltage (the tension), provided by an energy source like a battery and its two +positive and -negative poles (the padel team), causes current to flow (the game).
The identity is a visual interpretation of electric tension, with the logo’s distorted letters looking as if they just suffered an electric charge, and the capital V working as an isolated symbol for the brand. A monospaced typography was used throughout all applications, to give the brand a digital and technological look & feel. Each racket has a specific voltage number, with a voltmeter on the top showing the tension you can “unleash” with the racket. Unusual and contrasting colors (light grey/red, army green/orange and petrol blue/camel brown) were used to, once again, differentiate VOLT Padel from the competition.
The result is a truly dynamic, energetic and punchy visual identity, with rackets that stand out because of its simplicity, use of colour and smart use of the voltage concept.
